NURBS Car Exhaust.
Overview: Working with a car exhaust manufacturer they wanted to streamline their manufacturing process by laser scanning existing exhausts so they could redesign referencing the route and mounting points.

Our portable laser scanning service was required for this job due to the size of the car but so we could use the customer lifting ramp to access the exhaust.

The customer only required a NURBS model for this project as they had their own Design Engineer who was going to complete various design iteration. A NURBS model is essentially the scan data (defects included) wrapped in an auto generated surface which can then be exported in a CAD format (.stp, .iges, .xt).

Because we delivered this work as a NURBS there was very little inspection required. Our main consideration is refining the auto surface settings in Geomagic Wrap so ensure an accurate tolerance.
